I used the same layout from Iron Age, with the Acropolis being at the center to cover all the garrisons and the stable.
So far, it's doing a decent job at holding off the enemy's troops away from my resources. However, it lowers one's medal count (which is a good thing for now, since having 500-600 medals = more stonger opponents).

What is the benefit of having Houses and your Acropolis inside the walls while leaving defensive Barracks outside the walls? In my experience, placing barracks inside the walls will provide troops to hold the line when the walls are being attacked, buying time for your towers to attack.

I'm not a huge fan of these base to be honest. Not enough wall coverage and also your garrisons are all outside in the open....

I agree, kick the houses out. The buildings that are designed to give you defenders should be protected better. Make use of the gates near them so that they can get out and fight and attackers if needed.

This base works for me so far. I haven't had many attackers as before, and when they do attack, they only take 20%-30% of my resources. The houses is just in the perfect area, for they serve as a diversion from the towers and garrisons. After the enemy destroys the houses, my defenders have already caught up to them and the towers already slicing off their numbers. Can you show us yours so we can also compare? thanks for the inputs. I appreciate it.
