If a player in your alliance leaves for another alliance and you wanted to message or keep up with them to say hello, is there a way to do that? I am sure this has been discussed on these forums, but my rudimentary search did not locate any relevant topics.

I think your can find which alliance they are in by searching and then some one from your alliance can join up at at their new alliance to chat with them....
assuming your representative has the minimum medals (or is "invited") to join that alliance xD
You were right in saying this has been brought up before. The answer is the same. Unless you know where they went, which is possible if their departure is still in chat or you had outside communication set up, your options are limited to the small comments under the alliance name. Or forum or facebook if they indulged.
