It's probably one of the most underused unit in the game. Maybe shedding a little bit of light on it would increase its popularity. Or there could be a reason why they are not so popular and the developers should look into buffing it a little bit (e.g. lower troop space, higher hp, etc...)? Gatling guns started out taking 8 troop space. They became more popular after the troop space was reduced to 4. This is something that could happen with guerrillas if developers really want players to use a wider variety of units in their army.

So does anyone use these units?

If so, how do you use them most efficiently?

If not, why don't you use them?

Nice concept, but a bit too much all or nothing. They either die quickly in traps in which case they do use too much troop space or they rampage through a base, defenders ignoring them most of the time.

A bit less troop space, if they can avoid towers, they could not trigger traps too, but if a defender gets within range they should get shot to pieces quickly - make them more effective in unpopulated parts of a base

Yes they are all-in and quite random. Personally I have learned how to carefully use them. Now I just love them.

i can never get mine to work cause as soon as they make it to a worthwhile spot in the base, i end up having to rally the rest of my troops for one reason or another. they are constantly in a state of walking back and forth. i cant imagine them getting a buff though, because when they are working well they are probably one of the most powered units in the game. if you cut back in their troop space it would be way to easy to take advantage of them

I love using them in certain situations. Like when there's a redoubt or cannon between the wall and tc or if there's a couple of pesky mortars aimed toward the oil refinery or market I wanna loot. There's definitely a learning curve to them. There are certain situations you just don't use them. Never drop them near the castle. Generals can smell them and love nothing better than to foil their sneaky plans. I don't see them being used for a full army attack though... too sneaky and too much troop space. They are best used for the tc snipe and raid method of play. I say make them take up less space then they will be used more.

Winning consistently with a mixed army is a tough balance (as medal counts increase, driving opponent lvl up). Sabs are really effective when they work, but devoting so much troop space takes away from other aspects of the army. When rare multi medal battles come up, having a sab in my army would likely make it impossible to win (assuming maxed walls, mixed army and no wall breakers).

Btw, good post, HK. Thanks for livening up the forum.

(I've seen one or two really effective attacks with lots of engineers, sabs and either raiders or infantry. Very precise attack method. Just not the way I do things right now.)

This unit has the highest potential sadly wasted by its willingness to sneak through gates, where everyone puts their traps (obviously).

Does anyone know what Guerrilla does on defense? I had an alliance member donate me one, but I used it on offense instead. I wonder what they would do on defense... walk right into middle of the enemy army and blow them all up?

About the same thing an engineer does to the second wall it reaches. Pounds it with fists...

As others said before they are too random for me to use them reliably. They also don't work well with the rally: If you deploy with your army they are not faster than cannons, and if you deploy on the other side of the base you can't rally. But the real problem is that they die from spike traps - I think they should be modified to no trigger spike traps (other traps ok). Could reduce HP if necessary for balance.

I Always have one in my roman industrial army, sometimes they are great, sometimes not. But it helps to have planes to keep defenders from them. Too much gamble in EA though, especially when non-roman

As a test I tried commando spam in a easy Ea base. 9 commandos with 20% buff from the gate with bimp and biplane support. Could be my bad gameplay but they all died without taking the tc.

They are useless on defence. I had one donated very late at night. I didn't even see him leave TC before he died. (His job is to blow up buildings so I am guessing that since they don't attack with buildings he had no idea what to do and committed virtual suicide. Lol)

Sorry Eddie, I don't have a replay of the attack ;). The problem with spamming just commandos is their dps against the TC is just terrible, it like a HC hacking against a max wall. Also rallying them to the TC was a bad idea, it is usually where the spikes are. Having 9 commandos running around and the base and trying to defend them requires some mastery and using a blimp and a biplane was not a good idea. Three biplane would have been good. With that said, they did decent job of demolishing the base until I rally them to the TC due to the time constraint. Another annoyance I have with commando is if you deploy them close together, they like to hold hands to get the job done.

I do use 1-2 of them when I try to five star a base. I use them to clear towers and air defense for my blimp and anti tank gun for my tanks. I usually deploy them after my Heavy tank has finished of the TC, drawing the defenders and running over the spikes, therefore increase their survival chance. In terms of increase their play-ability, a slight decrease in troop space and cooking time would help, however decreasing the troop space by too much would make them OP. Had I have 9 commandos with a couple of tanks or bikies to take the TC, the attack would have been too easy. They only answer to 5 spikes and defenders that lurk around the base, once they are gone, the world is their oyster.

I totally agree that this troop unit has not seen much battles because it is generally worth it. How can any developer that is responsible for troop balancing not see this? Do they really play the game like us?

I loved Saboteurs until early EA. Then I moved up the ranks. Oppenents got better, of course. Most of them place spike traps behind gates. I was sad for a week because it was much fun watching saboteurs do their work. I never used them anymore afterwards.
