I'm late medieval, running Jwinns medieval base. I'm about to upgrade to gunpowder by the end of the weekend, and during that time I'll be concentrating on maxing my walls. Because of that, I should have a surplus amount of food, provided I'm not raided too much. When I start gunpowder, as I don't have many new buildings, I'll keep to my current layout initially, and use the food to upgrade my barracks first. After that- thoughts? I'm thinking using the gold to upgrade ballistas first, then the machine gun towers, and the food to work on blacksmith then troop upgrades. Any other ideas, or am I off to a good start?

Max out offense before u touch defense or economy. And by offense i mean everything. Alliance gate, mercenaries, temple, blacksmith, war academy, library, then food gold storage. Trade good storage. All those things contribute to ur offense and have priority over defense and economy

Well, there are some critical troops upgrades, so the first is always blacksmith, then at least 2-3 troops upgrades, and barracks for army size are the must. After that you may balance things. If you managed to collect a lot of gold it is smart to use it on the most expensive upgrade, so you don't have to collect it again, it could be library researches too. Temple is not very important in GP, but very important in EA. Gates and mercs - you can survive without them, even without goods storage and castle.

Most of the offence upgrades require food- in getting those I'd acquire gold too? Once the barracks & blacksmith upgrades are completed, I don't need the workers to upgrade my troops, so can use the gold I'm also gathering for defensive buildings? That was my initial plan anyways..?

By the way, as a player who walks the line between playing casually vs playing a bit too much, I fully recognise my initial need to upgrade my attack capabilities as fast as possible- I don't usually sit behind a peace treaty and gather resources from farms & caravans- raiders are more efficient. However- i am aware I am also going to get totally raped by EA players. Then again I suppose that's just something I have to get used to..!

Upgrade your Mills and Markets first so they can have enough capacity for the resources for your upgrades. Then proceed to Barracks to increase your troop capacity. Then move on to your Blacksmith and Library. When you have done with maximizing your military strength, then proceed with your Defenses.

Rush blacksmith and get dragoons is something that could help. After the blacksmith start maxing more offence:Barracks, Library, Temple(storage blessing helps a bit, but not super powerful), etc. Make sure to have max GP storage, then rush enlightment.

U can survive withour alliance gate and merc, trade good storage etc etc. But they all contribute to ur overall offensive capability and therefore take presedence over defense economy upgrades.. once all offense is upgraded then do whatever u want until next age is available then jump right in

U wil get raped whether u have no walls, or maxed out industrial base with max walls. Someone will roll in there with 2x lvl30 generals, full mercenaries, full reinforcements, 5 tactics, air units and wipe u out. U wont see the 3 other guys who lost to ur defense because theyll close app. So from ur end of the phone max, or no defense. Will feel the same. Offense is all that matters. Defense and economy is just to fill the time when ur tc is upgrading or u need more levels to open up next age

Ull need ur workers pretty much non stop for all the offense upgrades. Including support buildings. Theres not a lot of time for defense or economy upgrades. Just when u are full offense upgraded, and waitint for tc to finish entering next age. The only reason i have defense upgraded was waiting for industrial with maxed out offense so defense started to catch up

Well, for more casual style resource balance may be more important. Let me explain. E.g. you push hard to collect 4m food for troop upgrade. Usually, food is going slower, so you also collect 5m gold. You may spend it on walls of course, but then you'll need another longer session to get those 4-5m, so you may sacrafice e.g. Upgrading gates and make a mortair until your food will collect to max naturally. Walls you may build on shorter sessions till lvl10. Also, it will shorten your period when you have nowhere to spend your food.

I'm actually still running Jwinn's Medieval base and i'm 2 weeks+ into GP. I've had one EA attack that i'd describe as "rape" lol so i wouldnt be so sure.

I have the ability to change layout but i'm seeing so much success with Jwinn's MA layout i don't feel the need to upgrade those new walls. Even the new watchtower, stable and whatever else you get i'm not bothering with yet. My base holds 1-2 million of each without many attacks. You should be fine!

It's been good actually- currently holding max food as I have nothing left to spend it on and I'm farming gold to upgrade my walls whilst the town centre updates to gunpowder. Only had one attack in days and only took 100k out of 2mil, which isn't bad! Where can I find your gunpowder base? Might stick to the current layout initially until I get enough new buildings to make it worth the change of layout though.
