Hard Closing is a legitimate Strategy

If the app crash, it is different from force quit because the code will go to exception handling before shut down. Manual quit is os enabled feature so it won't trigger exception handle. It should be possible to detect. For server side to do action on the attacker player, server can pending an action to deduct medal. If the player goes online again and the app sends a message to tell server its last quit is a crash, the pending medal deduction is cancelled otherwise the medal is deducted upon its next login.

From what I have been told, force quit is the same whether the app force quits or the player does - like I said, getting more information tomorrow. But as far as I understand right now, they do not look any different to us.

man, i just love being denied my defensive wins and medals over and over again. the resetting all the traps and the stolen resources & trade goods suck, but i could live with that if i got some medals out of the deal.

it's extremely frustrating to work on a good base setup, then be constantly robbed of the medals i should have gained from failed attacks. when will defenses matter? why is it that this issue still exist when you're customers have been begging you to fix it for well over half a year?

That's why I don't bother with defence - I reckon I can build a defendable base, but why bother

From server side perspective, you heard the correct thing that they are no different. But from client side perspective, I am very sure they are different. The judgement can be done in client side and send back to server side upon next time login

The devs don't have to change anything technical with the server or client sides if they redesign the medal system. Gain more medals when win and lose fewer medals when lose. Half of the reason why people do this is because it takes forever to gain medals and just 1 lost battle set you back a week.

People will do this even if winning is worth 20 medals and losing is 1 medal as long as u keep loot

In the short term, we are looking at detecting players who do this and taking corrective action. I've got our Analytics team looking into it for me, along with the max walls people. Longer term, the fix for this is prioritized for our server team, along with the Alliance features coming up soon.

What does it mean exactly? How will you differentiate force quitting from losing network connection (this could be done through airplane mode as someone else said)?

However, I don't see why you are putting this in the same sentence as detecting people with max walls? People with max walls are for the majority cheaters who have unlimited crowns. People who force quit are not cheaters, they are using an exploit of the game that you have allowed. Are you saying you are going to ban people who force quit in the short term? Just as you will ban cheaters with max wall?

It is up to you to fix the problem, but don't assimilate people with cheaters if the feature was by design. Let's be clear on the difference.

I'm totally in favor of this correction. Now it will make sense to build defense in this game. Otherwise, half of the game is not worth spending building time and resources on.

Ironangel there is a simple solution! -> If a battle has been started, it has to been counted!

Doesn't matter if the app forced to closed, crashed, the connection has been lost or anything else.
You will never find any other solution because you can proof what's happened in reality!

My game crashes 5-15 times a day since the last update; it's crashed regularly for months and months (taking all loot and deployed troops with it). Many of my allies experience the same issue daily.

So this distinction is important, and perhaps complicates things just a tad more. If everyone is put in the same boat then maybe the people complaining about sprung traps will stop, but they will be replaced by the people that constantly get crashes through no fault of their own (it's essentially the problem we have now). A complex fix accounting for all issues is required by people that know the infrastructure. Not a 'quick and simple' fix that superficially seems to make sense.

@maggiepie that's bad!
For sure a stable app is important as well, but again if a battle has been started it has to been counted!
No other game differentiate what is happened, because it is technical not possible.
If the internet connection has been lose, I could have remove the cable from the router. You will never find it out …
If an app has crashed, has been closed or the battery has been removed this is nothing what they can be identify!

It seems to be another issue why they could not implement a solution for this bug......

Can't they make it so nothing is actually added or lost from either attacker or defender until the battle is completed. If the battle is ended by either disconnect or FC it's as if the battle never took place.

Why not just add a disconnect stat by peoples names. Maybe you can't figure out how to stop it but maybe you can embarress them enough to think twice.

It doesn't differentiate between people will older hardware/dodgy wifi/buggy software and deliberate force quit.

The problem is a 1980's simplistic high-score table in a 2015 game made worse by the stupid scoring system to get on the high-score table i.e. win 1 lose 39.
