Following up on dbukalski's comment: i also spam raiders and have been thinking exactly the same as him for a while. I have to say when you're looking for raiders attacking the closest thing - regardless of obstacles - you can see that's exactly what they do. They aim for the next closest thing regardless of obstacles.
That being said i have been wondering if they do make some kind of decision as to how to split the group when aiming for new targets. Sometimes it seems like half go for one thing and half for the other as if they have decided that "10 should be enough for that mill, the rest of the army can go this way...". But i have a feeling it's just one half of the army was closest to one thing, and the other half to another!
