Is war matchmaking broken?

I'm from the Shred and we keep meeting alliances with far better defense than us. Its just getting crazy, in our current war we even risk to lose 980 glory, but they have the strongest defense advantage ive ever seen so far.

They got 3 max AA, we got 1.
They got 4 near max AA, we got none.
They got 7 lvl 3 silos, we got 2.

It seems to go in waves with us... a series of impossible wars (most of the time with big glory at stake) that make everyone want to opt out of war. But then such easy wars (with very little glory to win) that it’s hardly worth the effort other than to protect what we have. Occasionally we will get a good match but those cases are getting rare and something we take very seriously but then again so is the other team because they are probably in the same boat.

Our war matchups have been absolute junk for all of September / October, and not much better in July/Aug. I see two competitive wars out of our last 20 in our history, and only 3 or so in the previous 20.

I think DN should be transparent with their matchmaking algorithm. Even have a simulated warmatching where you could put in your players and simulated opposition and it coughs up the ranking of your players, the ghost opponent and the glory.

Reason: Even with the flaws in glory, ranking of players within the teams and the war matching, you would be able to see the result. Unless the programming is literally spaghetti code, this should be doable.

Which takes almost 2 years to complete AA defense. And then he can go to war, right? :)

Crowns my friend, crowns are your friend ;-)

In all seriousness, if a system is flawed you have to adapt and play to the system. That means not following the upgrade path you might prefer but engineering your base to work the system so you gain an edge. This has to be done not just at an individual level but also at an alliance level. The alliances that are constantly winning do just that and are more successful at wars.

Feels like its gotten worse tho, Wonderasia had like 4 max AA when we matched them.

And we beat them :) Sometimes good strategy and teamwork is enough to beat the odds and pull out a win. I know it can be frustrating but we do our best and give them a hell of a fight and make them work for it.

I see that you guys have inched past 24K glory, so you've been on a good run of late. There will always be outliers on both ends of the spectrum. I don't think the player base is big enough (especially at your glory level) to get perfect matchups every time.

Our last 10 wars have been against only 3 unique alliances. The matchmaking is so tight now that top alliances only have around 4-5 possible alliances to fight. It's getting boring.

you guys might have to start rotating in a bunch of lower guys then. Right now thats probably the only way you can get new matchups.

I think they took your advice. We just lost an impossible war and only lost 10 glory points!

10 Generate Match
20 If match skewed then 30 Else Gosub 10
30 If match screws team Then Gosub 50
40 Generate Terrible War Loot
45 Start War
47 End
50 Return 40

yup just about sums it up....

I see that The Shred won this supposedly lopsided matchup, so what was all the complaining about? We've had many matchups that looked terrible on paper but we pulled it out because they had weak attacks.

Maybe the other alliance missed a lot of attacks, maybe the other alliance isnt as organized. Maybe they had to use a lot of troop cards to scrape out a victory

Just because an underdog wins doesnt mean the matchmaking is ok..
