Medal climbing in lower ages

Made this thread due to sheer curiosity...

I tried climbing medals with a Bronze Age alt a while ago (has to have been more than a year, honestly). I was able to get this alt to about 500-600 medals just hitting Bronze players before I started getting battles I couldn't win - I had a maxed-out Bronze army, but I was going up against players with levels easily above mine. Hell, you can't even beat a Classical base with a Bronze army. You also get the bases with tons of invisible buildings, etc., but overall, something funky is up and you literally can't win games anymore unless you advance in ages.

What with Loonies on the leaderboard, I'm wondering if it's now possible to go up by a large amount of medals if you're in the lower ages. I don't think it'd be possible past around 1600, since you can only attack within 1 age of you and 1000 medals, so I have no idea how he did it, but did they fix the bug where you can't attack any other lower-age players past a certain medal point if you're in the lower ages?

I'm Industrial, so I couldn't do this stuff if I wanted to, but it'd be interesting to see a lower age player in the top of the leaderboard since it's entirely CWA now...

Provided the age of the thread, I would asume this was before they restricted attacking to just +/- 1. Yes there was a time this was a thing. Also a time when cavalry did a lot of damage with no penalty for ressources. Good times, broken times :D

I'm pretty sure it was actually after they did it - mid-late 2016. I couldn't get above around 500 because it kept giving me corrupt bases (like the invisible stuff I mentioned, and also all kinds of funky nonsense), bases that are obviously much higher level/age and show as Bronze, etc.,

I don’t know about now, but when I broke through the mass of broken bases between 800 and 1800 things were different. Attack strength was higher relative to defense, so Bronze Age could compete up to classical. The real trick though is you need to get organized and maintain a long list of bases that are safe to attack and which are not safe due to the base bugs mentioned above. And then you need to get disciplined about hitting the safe list every day. It’s like passing through a mine field ... one good battle gets you 1 medal, while one bad battle sets you back 39 medals. I think this part hasn’t changed.

There are Iron Age bases making a go of it, although most are cheaters. I see them lapping at my heels :)

I got an Enlightenment base on my third battle (I was at 200 medals bronze). What an auspicious start to my journey, lol. Seems like Nexon made it even worse with the higher age bases.
