Mortars or Anti-tank guns?

So I have made a huge mistake by rushing through ages and now my leve 85 Japanese empire has the weakest defense in IA you have ever seen. All my balista towers are still level 1 and my catapults are level 2. Stable level 3, garrisons mostly level 5-6 and 1x 7.

I have 1 mortar because I felt like it had the most impact during an attack. So should i now rush to get 4 mortars or 4 anti-tank guns?

I have seen weaker actually, a dynasty Korean with 1 level 1 catapult, one level 1 ballista and 1 level 1 stable, towers and garrisons at about level 3/4.... level 99 thanks to maxed offense probably

Do one of each until you get them up to a respectable level, or maybe alternate. DO keep offensive upgrades pumping. Defense is overrated in this game. As long as you can loot enough gold with TB to keep those villagers busy, I don't see any problems. Wouldn't know which to focus on first though, at lower medals, I see people sporting huge tank based armies or archer/range spam. You'll get owned by one or the other until both upgrades are at a more respectable level. Then, you will get owned by even more powerful players. Such is the life in this game.

i agree with vincent, offense much more important than defense. Unless your dropping serious dollars on this game you cant rush to highest level mortors or antitank, so start upgrading one or the other while you get your troops maxed and dont forget to keep up on library tech, often much bigger boost than individual bldg upgrades.

Fortunately my offense is a LOT better than my defense and you do have a good point. But I have no TB. One day and 14 hours left for my temple to complete level 5! Can not wait... I'm going on a rampage lol.

Sometimes I come across bases that makes me wonder if they have spend their whole two month salary on the game lol. I just realized how important library and temple actually is so I invested all my gold and food into upgrading them. Thanks for the tips guys!

Great! Surprise you waited to IA to get Temple upgraded. You are about to enter the good life. Maybe you have so much fun looting nonstop that you will consider switching to French :D

Yeah I'm wondering the same. these folk must be on it for at least 12 hours a day constantly. Makes me wonder what kind of life they have. Or like you said, spend their entire paycheck on this game which is equally daft.

With a training blessing, you'll be getting a lot of resources of both food and gold. Use food for the offensive upgrades, and spend the gold in parallel on the defensive upgrades.
I don't see redoubts listed here. See if you can add any other remaining defensive buildings first, before beginning to upgrade them - complexity goes up for the attacker with the number of buildings to take down. Towers are important too.
Once you've added all of the defensive buildings, upgrade them in a round robin fashion - mortars, ballista towers, towers, stables, redoubts, garrisons.
And, don't forget the castle.
What wonders do you have on your base? If they are defensive wonders, they can help in defending your base too.

If you haven't built the oil refinery yet, delay it until much later (until your defensive buildings are upgraded to EA or IA level). This will help to keep some of the attackers away, who are looking for oil.

Use a training blessing session or two, gather resources necessary for a couple of upgrades, spend most of the resources in initiating the upgrades, before closing down the game (leaving little to nothing for attackers, making it unattractive for anyone to attack your base). With low level defensive buildings, you'll not be able to hold resources on your base when you get off the game.

I have just finished my third redoubt. I've still have to make one more tower (via library) to reach the maximum amount. I only have one mortar, other three are stil catapults... sigh*. I have three oil refineries lined up but just realized spreading them would make more sense lol.
I have: The hanging gardens, The Forbidden city, Angkor Wat and an unfinished Versailles.

With my newly acquired TB I realized how easy it is now to gain recources! But the upgrade time is killing me... 8 citizens are currently busy for the next 6 days cuz of Factory level 2 & Oil reserve 2. I'll be going for Walls & Blacksmith troop upgrades till those finish. After that i'll probably hit one barrack at a time and raid for an Airstrip... that's going to be frustrating as hell.

Thanks for helping me lad! Appreciate everyones input/help!

Upgrade one garrison and one stable to the max, because that will also affect your tc and forest defenders. Other then that, maximum upgraded ambush traps give most bang for your buck.

Yes, though less painfull now that the force-quit exploit has been removed. Also my road income usually is enough to take care of that.

I had no clue. Will rush it ASAP! And ambush traps... never ever took these serious lol. Because I don't where to put them since every invade comes from an different direction when I re-watch my town invades...
