A gunpowder age player in our alliance was matched against a global age opponent in multiplayer, I was under the belief that one could only attack 1 age below or above ones own age. Did this change with the last update or is this a known issue?

It happens sometimes below Enlightenment Age. I remember when starting my second account encountering Enlightenment, Industrials, and Globals in Bronze Age. It was pretty awesome if they happened to have any unguarded farms and/or caravans actually.

Even now with that account in gunpowder age I'll stumble across IA or GA bases a few times a week. It doesn't seem like they can revenge me if I attack though, or maybe I'm not worth the bother for them.

Not sure what the cause may be though. And my IA account has yet to stumble across any Atomic Age bases.

Back about a year ago, I have once encountered an Industrial Age(the most advanced Age available at that time) opponent with my then-Medieval Age account through multiplayer battles. Out of curiosity, I attacked that base, and was later being revenged on. I still remember how my poorly designed base got wiped out by planes.
I thought that was a bug causing me to be able to matched with such an advanced player.
