Hello everyone. I recently advanced to IA during Winter for the Ages, and I was wondering what I should spend my resources on first. To those above me, what were your top priorities in this age? I have already upgraded my oil refinery and mercenary camp, and I have my eyes on the Heavy Tanks. Are they any good? Thanks in advance. I am Korean level 133.

Always work towards upgrading your offensive troops first. That's shooters, artillery, tanks, healers, etc. That means upgrading your Armory and mills in particular. Also, Barracks are a high priority. Alliance gate is also important, as at IA you're going to get 3 howies or other artillery.

Get all of those offensive upgrades out of the way first, and raiding and wars will become much easier.

Personally I wouldn't mess with factory/HTs until much later. Work on your main army first.

Yes, exactly what Festivus said, except since they are currently running a discount on IA upgrades I would put a priority to get started on your Airfield, and upgrading it as soon as possible. Getting 2 planes cheap is a nice way to introduce yourself to IA. I would also agree on putting a low priority on your factory/HT.

Given the current sale, I would focus on buildings/upgrades that cost oil first. Food/gold is easy to obtain, but oil much less so. I also disagree with ignoring the factory. The factory is pretty useless in IA, but once you get to AA there are some useful troops in there. I regret not keeping up with my factories, and I'm now playing catchup.

Plus library for research requiring no workers. Upgrade mills to start with but not markets.

Everyone has good suggestions so far but ask yourself: what do I need the most? That will determine what you upgrade first.
If you like factory troops, do the factory. Otherwise do the normal barracks first but the airstrip is definitely the way to go, it's an immense help with any army. Armory, of course. Mills/markets as needed.
Offense before defense always and now is the right time with the IA discount event. :D
Defense: If you have time, because this event is 2 weeks long, upgrade mortars and stable/tank depot then towers.

Factory can definitely wait, given that you're playing as the Koreans.
By focusing on the armoury and your shooters, artillery, tanks, and healers, you might minimize the need to upgrade mills before getting those troop upgrades.
Get the upgrades on the war academy and the mercenary camp too. You get to unlock the decoy tactic by upgrading the war academy - would be a great value addition to your tactic composition in wars.
Also, getting the mercenary camp upgraded would mean you can run with Flampanzers.

These are far more valuable to get on priority during this discount, without having to wait for mill upgrades, given that you've just reached IA.
Also, if time permits, begin your barrack upgrades. I might suggest keeping these towards the end of the discount period, after you've initiated the other upgrades, just before the discount ends. Otherwise, you'll have a hard time gathering resources if your barracks are down for upgrades.
Just when the discount period is about to get over, initiate the upgrade for one barrack, then, gather all of the food needed for the next two barracks, and initiate the upgrades for the last two barracks simultaneously.

The reason I'm suggesting these is that, coming from EA, your food storage capacity would be 6 million.
During this discount period, you'll be able to initiate the following upgrades without upgrading your mills (costs after considering 40% discounts, without even having the Notre Dame):
Armoury: 3 million
War academy: 3 million
Mercenary camp: 4.2 million
Barracks: 3 million
Tank: 4.2 million
Artillery: 4.2 million
Shooters: 3.3 million
Supply truck: 4.2 million

Without taking advantage of this discount, you'll end up having to upgrade each mill for an extra storage capacity of 500,000 each, lasting 5 days.

So, I would highly recommend prioritizing armoury, war academy, mercenary camp, troop upgrades, and finally, the barracks during this discount period.

Hope this helps.
Cheers and happy gaming! :)

Thanks so much for all the advice everyone. This was my first post on this forum and I really appreciate all the support I’m getting. I will settle with upgraded war academy, merc camp, alliance gate, armory with artillery and Korean riflemen researched, airstrip and a barrack or two by the end of the event. I have decided to hold my dream of an all HT army for later ages. :D

Since we are on the same topic here, I just got to IA. Here is what I already upgraded. I am British btw

1.Armory
2. Artillery, rifleman
3.Both library levels
4.Airstrip level 1 and 2

What I am thinking to build later on:
1.Bunkers
2. Barracks
3. Oil library upgrades
4. Sniper tower

Any suggestions on what to upgrade/build first before the discount ends.

I think you'd be better off with Fort instead of a Bunker, and air defense instead of sniper tower. From what I've seen sniper tower is cheaper than air defense.

Good idea about holding off on the HT army.
First, upgrade your troops/age, increase your oil capacity, become good at raiding.
THEN, you'll see how easy it is to collect oil. It might be a long 6-8 months but it'll be worth it. :D

I agree with Knifer. I think the Bunker is given too high of a weight in war, so move it down on your list. I would put the Oil library upgrades first since getting to the third plane is a big help. Of your top four I would probably take Bunker off the list entirely and put in upgrading your fort instead.

I actually disagree with the common advice in this thread, but it depends on your play style. I use HT in my lineup and it was one of my first upgrades (it's great against everything except walls and anti-tank guns). Moreover, you benefit a lot more from discounted oil upgrades than discounted food. I would upgrade factory troops first, but only the ones you use. As for food, I'd prioritize artillery (followed by archers), as others have mentioned.

Tiiiiiiiiiiiime for an update, folks! :)

Oh man where to start... so much stuff got done during the discount, I’m sure for everybody.

Upgraded my mercenary camp, war academy, alliance gate, armoury, embassy, factory, and all my walls to level 8, along with some necessary forest clearing.
Researched my riflemen, artillery, and supply truck.
Built an airstrip.

So that’s what I got done in two weeks... wanna thank all those who put in their time to help me decide. Except for the Airstrip vs. Factory, I managed to get both :)

And yes, I may be just putting this topic on the top of the list... hehe... but nah, I wouldn’t do anything of that sort, would I?

Oh and B-T-Dubs, those Heavy Tanks are awesome yo, totally recommend them, too bad the sale is over now...

But only for Industrial Age dudes, which is probably everyone, as everyone in Global surely dumped every drop of oil on that Missile Silo.

If you’re still reading by now, then that’s twenty seconds you just wasted. Unless you’re a slow reader...

What are you doin’? Get back to your base and continue the never-ending grind for oil!
