Why do you advance your technology only to build new structures in stone age format and then upgrade them age by age?
We need a research centre, let call it a university.
There you research technology. Like defensive buildings, traps and other buildings. Once you've researched the technology, all new or additional buildings will be at that level you've researched. Existing buildings need to be upgraded to newly researched technology. New age obviously brings new technology which need to be further researched.
