Hello people... I've been playing for a while now (Djin is my name) and coming to these forums. I'm playing as the Greeks and have noticed much talk about the French "built in cheats" and also heard how horrible the Greeks are.

Were they (Greeks) ever good? And how would this civilization become good with future fixes?

Greek is the worst nation in the game right now. The best advise you will hear here is to change into France nation.

What "built in cheat"? I've been playing French since this game's global launch and all I ever experienced was what pain in the ass growing with the French was. It was the nation with no helpful economic or military bonuses and the most handicap unique in the game. Let's not even get into the discussion of how many times our unique has been nerfed and how unreliable it's been for most of the games release. It wasn't until fairly recently that they gave it a buff to make it more competitive. Before that it was widely regarded as the worst and least used nation. So this cheat that most of these new and ignorant players have convinced you about is in theirs and now your imagination.

Well, certain imbalance France has is not a cheat. Let me be clear with that, if someone misunderstood my posts. But if you multiply that on imbalance with league rewards and real 'close app' cheat, you get HUGE imbalance that dbukalski just kindly pointed out. It hurts fair play as bad as real cheaters, imo.

I'm with MadFury on this one. Fairly worthless unique unit and the -20% is only going to be taken advantage of by very dedicated players. Your top players (who pay to play) will always be Roman for obvious reasons. I swear this forum goes on tangents, it was just a month or so ago that everyone was saying, "OMGZ Romans are so OP." Now it's the French, tomorrow it will be the Koreans...

But back to the OP, Greeks just need a little boost to be competitive. perhaps something to do with trade goods? Greeks were the masters of trade in their day, so perhaps they harvest 50% more trade goods? Being able to field more mercenaries would be historically accurate too, and give them an offensive boost they lost with the HC nerf.

Yes, the whole probmlem is that just 20% reduction on training is nothing much, but it still will make some difference for factory/air units and on training blessing. BUT it is still better than british 10% nation bonus or greeks joke. On top of that you have better alliance gates

I would say greeks need a HUGE boost on their unique or their powers' values to be competitive. I'd like all nations to be unique, so they trully provide new gameplay style.

Given how powerful the Spartan army was in its time it's a shame they didn't introduce something in combat. Perhaps a defensive blessing could be applied after each successful victory given that the Spartans were known for their discipline and strong shield wall.

I wish they'd change the refund on walls to per piece rather than needing to upgrade two at a time as I'm about to start upgrading my walls to level 9 and so need to reach 2 million in gold each time I upgrade.

Let me put it this way. If all greeks switch to France, it will get nerfed and guess what? You'll be greeks again :))) after spending 600 crowns and having next switch cost more. So the only way stop being real greeks is to switch to koreans/germans.

I think it would have been pretty awesome to see Spartan troops as their unique, or a better economic advantage. I picked the Greeks solely on economics. I tend to play more defensive and more about trade.

I wish we could have a market place to trade goods, etc. That would be pretty awesome, no?

Greeks used to be good before they nerfed heavy cavalry because it was overpowered. I used to just launch 10 horses, snipe the ballista, let them run around for a minute or two, add a few foot soldiers and you would 5-star any base in medieval, classical and get almost all troops back. Back to back attacks pretty much all the time.

People are complaining about how they are useless now but that's because they were really good before and they got nerfed. I tried to give them a chance for as long as I could after the nerf but had to switch to France :)

I would personally like to have a stronger infantry unit. The Hoplite was Sparta's strongest infantry unit and that's obviously an earlier unit in the game so perhaps change the name of the units to Spartan Pikeman, Spartan Halberdier etc. and add a perk, such as increased health, DPS, a new rally feature to bring the troops together in a phalanx formation with temporary increased health and DPS or as I said previously a blessing could be applied after a successful battle to be used in the next one.

Add Spartan hoplites, they were famous for their strength and success over the most powerful army of their time, the Persian immortals. Also, Athens controlled much of Greece with its navy, forcing other city states to bow to their command. They were the first Greek empire. They're glory was short lived, because the Spartans became fed up with them, hence the peleponesian war. And the Spartans won. Except them came alaxander, conquering all on Greece, then his empire fell apart and the Romans came along. The was the end of Spartan and Greek glory.

That was a battle formation "the phalanx wall" which war used to brace against cavalry or infantry charges. The Romans used the similar "testudo" formation, which war deadly against cavalry. Spartans entered the battle with spears, and left with swords, they were extremely deadly in hand to hand combat

I'm aware of that. I have read a lot about the Spartans as I enjoy reading heroic fantasy novels.

Know what would be pretty neat, having not only "Spartan" warriors, but also a formation button during battles, or at least have the ability to set your defences a certain way to counter attacks.

But I'd love to see a special troop for the Greeks other than the "Companion". Yes they are neat, but they don't do all that much damage. Yes, I know they are tanks, but still.
