What's the best usage of traps?

I'm curious how are you all using your traps.
Do you use your spike traps/mines at the entrance to your gates?
Do you spread your caltrops/barbed wire near your anti-tank guns/cannon towers?
Do you prefer to create kill zones, clustering your traps?
Or, any other better ways of using traps?

I haven't been having too much success with using traps, and so, I would like to learn from your experiences on how to put them to good use in Global Age.
Thank you :)

I got tired of resetting them all for 250k a pop so plonked them all in a corner out of the way.

Saves a few million not having to bother upgrading them too. Bonus!

I find traps more effective when grouped together in clusters inside the walls. Ambush traps especially, strength in troop numbers. Surround them with 3-4 Barded Wire traps to slow attacking troops forward progression. Love watching all those little guys jumping out at once and taking down the enemy, atleast distracting them while giving defending troops more time to spawn out of the buildings before being destroyed. A wall opening with Versailles and 2-4 Barb Wire spread around inside its radius slow down the troops that a couple of Mortars can do serious damage to the foot troops. For fun I place land mines just outside Versailles radius, the surviving tank trip the Landmines. What the Mortars do not kill the Anti Tank guns can finish off quickly. When it goes according to plan. But lately that area is avoided like the plague till end of the attacks. Do not overlook laying out your buildings with spaces in between them and the walls when ever possible. Keeps the enemy guessing where the traps are while your being scouted.

I literally just wrote this in another post - literally!! Well, actually, actually ...

One thing I've tried recently (oh, all those months wasted!) is to remove some walls from your inner perimeter and make an easy-but-meandering path inside your base towards your rss - essentially saying to your attackers ''hey, look at all these open spaces in the walls - why not go through them?'' - and place traps in and near the open spaces. Then sit back & watch the carnage ....

I can't tell you how many times I've almost fell of my chair from laughter. Why didn't I do this earlier? The AI doesn't really ''think'' for itself - it will ideally take the path of least resistance - & I have many replays with raiders or rallied troops choosing the, understandably, easiest path to my oil - only to blow up on my landmines or get bogged down by defenders/barbed wire while my towers finish them off.
And when someone uses tanks it's even more side-splittingly hilarious ..... ''Oh the humanity!!'' .....

I have three inviting directions of attack with oh-so-inviting gaps in walls. At first I was hesitant to leave these gaps but I'll keep going as long as I get a laugh out of it. Once my traps are sprung I still have towers and garrisons ''around''
and even if I lose my oil on the 5th or 6th or whatever attack, I don't care - it's just such a hoot when I log on!!

Come to think of it, I can tell you how many times - it's 27 .....

the ambush traps is probably costly but not the most effective so you may want to keep only them away.
