When to miss world wars through upgrades?

I definitely missed my latest alliance war due to war academy upgrading in IA. Tactics are pretty vital. But what else? For instance I can use mercenaries in first attack but are they necessary in 2nd? I just hate missing wars and possible rubies! Alliance gate still works in war as does command post. Coalition can be done by raising flags before upgrading when war is due.

I skipped while I was upgrading my academy and mercs last week.

If you watch the videos, some of the rewards are mercenary contracts, and those can be claimed while your camp is upgrading.

Coalitions are always available from the war screen, even while upgrading. Click on the three grey plus buttons where your coalition flags would normally show on the war page, and it will take you straight there.

The global and atomic airstrip upgrades mean no war for me, and realistically hardly any game play. Thus, I saved crowns for those.

But I haven't found a way around the tactics issue (other than more crowns). Marco has sold some, but betrayals and barrage don't really count as substitutes for decoy and demolition.

yemen. just in case if your upgrading embassy. coalitions can still be purchased while thats ongoing if you grab them through the world war screen.. no need to miss wars for that

I sat out of war while upgrading alliance gate, merc camp, war academy and airstrip. Try to do as many as possible at the same time.
