Colosseum vs Forbidden City

With the advent of World Wars, I am leaning toward Forbidden City, but would like to hear any opinions on the two.

I have Colosseum, the additional troops are easily taken care of by ranged shooters and planes, leaving you with just a daily Strength of the Gladiator as a "perk" for choosing it; but how useful is SotG? Double damage for what seems like 5 seconds is hardly enough to justify keeping it in my opinion.

Any thoughts?

Strength of gladiator does not double but tripple the damage for 12 seconds. I consider it one of the best tactics in WW. With it you can take out two defending level 30 generals in a few seconds. Artillery/Cannons under the strength of gladiator will take out all surrounding buildings in no time. (rally + SotG will make it even better). In my opinion, SotG makes it a lot easier to 5-star bases.

On the other hand with forbidden city you can better prevent anybody 5-starring your base in WW (provided you have a good defense around forbidden city especially against air units).

In the end it comes down to the choice if you want to prevent 5-stars on your base or have 5 stars in your attack.

I think the second town centre is a waste. It can easily be taken out unless you're shielding both it and your TC. But if you're doing that you're probably not shielding your resources as well as you should...

Colosseum is nice but I don't think infantry is that important on defence.

I still think it's better to just get the Notre Dame as there will be another age out sooner or later, more troop upgrades to do, etc.

I agree with this. Notredame is definitely something to go for, especially when upgrades will cost more later.

In response, where is the documented evidence of SotG doing triple damage for 12 seconds? I would need to see actual proof of this as in game it does not appear to last nearly that long.

Regarding Notre Dame, I have no trouble in amassing ridiculous sums of resources, so this is not something I would find useful.

One does not protect resources in War, thus protecting FC is no problem.

the radius of SotG also small, if you rally against a building behind wall then only tanks or horse get it. I have no problems 5 star other bases without it!:)

But nothing can compare to FC in defense.

I cannot vouch for the strength, but it is quite strong. The problem is it doesn't last that long though. Maybe before it lasted longer (or possibly throughout the battle), I really can't remember but maybe it did get nerfed to only last for a short time? Either way, you only get it once every 23 hours, so not exactly a HUGE help. The good thing is that you can have one ready in your units/blessings bar at the bottom while another is being prepared. Once the second one is ready you can effectively use the one you already have in one battle, and then claim the one that is ready and waiting to use in battle number #2 right afterwards. But this is as far as it will take you and you will have to wait 23 hours before seeing another one...

What do you consider "ridiculous" sums of resources? As in how many per hour of raiding can you get?

I will agree with Quang, I think nothings compares to Forbidden City in defense, if your objective is to avoid 5 stars.

When I see a base with Colosseum, in not that scared as when I see a base with Forbidden City... Where I pretty much give the quick star victory for impossible...

Gladiator tactic sounds interesting if it's like you say, but I think it depends on the rest of your wonders, if you already have offensive wonders like Versailles and Statue of Liberty for example, I think you can still win without that tactic, so sounds more important the boost FC gives you on defense, also for high medals leagues...

And finally, I actually agree with what's being said about Notre Dame, :) lol. I'm gonna keep it until Global Age it's released, and I see how it is. Also for generals it's important, a -10% oil off is helpful if you want to follow the pace of upgrading generals... And maybe in industrial age, we don't have problems amassing resources... But who knows how hard the Global Age is going to be... So I keep with my Notre Dame.

Forbidden City does nothing for defence. It's just there to prevent you from getting an extra star if you don't take it out along with the TC. The problem is that it's so easy to take out, unless someone protects it at the cost of their resources...

A Colosseum makes me think twice though foot soldiers are not that strong anyway. But when I see the Forbidden City it's almost like a relief, as if the defending side just wasted their wonder on something as useless as that... which cannot hurt me in any way... any which gives them absolutely nothing to help them during an attack (nor anywhere else in fact).

SotG's duration is paramount to my deciding whether it is worth not having Forbidden City. The "pink" status of the effect seems to vanish between 5-8 seconds for me, which is not nearly long enough to justify keeping it. Since the status indicator might be flawed, I wish there was some concrete info regarding duration so I could make an informed decision. Nexon really drops the ball in this regard.

Regarding resource gains, I never actually kept track to find out an hourly average, but suffice to say that I generate enough resources that I am never really waiting that long to have enough for the upgrades that I need. I am not saying that Notre Dame is not useful, but I would rather have Forbidden City strictly for its defensive merits, as oppose to one less day of raiding for an upgrade.

You keep missing the obvious bro. FC is defense in Wars, as defense in Wars is all about not giving up stars. Also, who protects resources in Wars? That would be foolish.

Yeah I think we are talking war and the very high medal level... LOL, if ressources still matter for you, then ISN'T colosseum or Forbidden City, it's CLEARLY Notre Dame, lol.

Forbidden City can be taken out easily, yes but you should place wisely to gain efficiency. You should separate the FC and TC wide but not too far enough that it sticks out of edge of the base layout. Also it a common misconception that it only protect 1 star but it is 2 two stars actually. It protects Town Center Star and Quick Victory Star. Most of the time, in multiplayer battles, if the enemy decided to go for a Quick victory star in my base his troops will be stretch out and not even achieve 50% destruction star. On the other hand, if he chooses the deploy his army at one area it's too difficult to impossible to gain a Quick victory star and sometimes even Town Center Star.

This were the dilemmas that FC attackers commonly facing.

Also people in low age often underestimate Notre Dame because they get quick resource. The biggest saving will be in IA, tens of millions and and save you days or weeks of game play!

Why isn't the terra cotta included in this convo? I have terra and like getting 20 extra troops which last longer then 12 seconds in battle and it gives your fort a 20% hit points boost which if you look is a beast on defense. You should seriously consider this wonder.

Both can make an attack tough and it's a great option to have to decide between.

My vote goes with Colosseum as the better option of the two. The extra defenders that pour out may be weak, but they do still eliminate some attackers and slow down the ones they don't eliminate. The Strength of the Gladiator has also helped me win many attacks I otherwise would have only been close to winning. The down side is the defenders are weak, but you get a lot of them.

Forbidden city makes a win tough since you have to eliminate both Town Centers. The downside though is the game doesn't provide you with enough walls or defensive buildings to actually protect 2 Town Centers. The second Town Center ends up just sitting there unprotected and easily destroyed so the advantage it gives you gets canceled out by your inability to properly protect it.

I try to avoid attacks and skip on to the next if I see either, but if I had to decide between attacking a Forbidden City player vs attacking a Colosseum player, I'm going after the person with the extra Town Center because my chances of a 5 star win seem better.

Also, the building doesn't glow when near the Acropolis, but the Acropolis does decrease the Colosseum first and additional wave times. You can see this by checking info with your Colosseum placed near and away from your Acropolis.

In my view, Colosseum helps if you are still farming, and you're participating in wars too. If you're in the higher medal leagues, Forbidden City is a better choice over the Colosseum.

Hands down colloseum for me, I save up and use the gladiator tactic in wars so that my troops can take down the TC quickly and 5 star. Also as you advance your garrisons, collosem will produce higher level infantry.

I made the mistake of starting out with Notre Dame, it was worthless and I was being attacked constantly. I notice I do the same thing when flipping through looking for attacks, one of the first things I look for is which wonders they have, if they have Coliseum I just skip onto the next one.

I finally swallowed the pain of using 500 crowns up to switch my Notre Dame to Coliseum and noticed right away the attacks on my town dropped off significantly. From with in minutes of peace treaty ending every time when I had Notre Dame to barely once a week or maybe every few days only now. Also the ability to kill more attackers now leads to more bonus crowns from the attack so eventually I'll get that 500 crown investment back, Notre Dame led to 0 extra attackers being killed.
