How does decoy work?

Hello,

Today I made my first WW-attack with several decoy-tactics after I have read (forum) and seen (youtube) that it could be a nice replacement for sabotage. Basically I was looking for an alternative to the broken sabotage.

However after having placed the first decoy (industrial age) within an area of def-guns (tower, mortar, anti-tank gun) I was kind of disappointed: It was destroyed after a few seconds.
The WW-replay shows, that it was destroyed after an anti tank gun (global age) gun fired at it. My decoy should have had 24k hp, the gun should deal ~ 3.950 dmg, the other def guns should deal far less dmg than the anti-tank gun.
I had expected that the decoy would stay longer. Also other decoys which I placed later were also destroyed very fast after being attacked by anti-tank guns.

Questions:
1. Is it normal that anti-tank gun destroys decoy (almost) instantly? 24k hp should be enough for up to 5 anti-tank gun hits.
2. Do you place decoys within an area of def building or better out of range to only pull the troops?

Thx, BR,
Armin

The listed number is damage per second. Anti-tank guns fire way less often than once per second, but each shot does that much damage times the number of seconds between shots. If it hasn't fired recently, the first shot is basically instantaneous when something comes in range - I'm not sure the exact damage per shot. Atomic is up to ~4400 dps, and various coalitions or university research can boost that further.

BTW, the decoy also triggers traps in the area. So if it tripped two land mines, I think it takes over 20,000 damage from those. So that could be a piece of it. Triggering traps is one of its biggest advantages in some circumstances.

I try to place it in range of mortars and towers (closer to those than my troops are), but not in range of anti-tank guns - then it draws their fire without dying immediately. Attracting enemy troops I do situationally (for TC howitzers, etc), but not typically how I use it.

For your 24k health Decoy, it will produce 4 soldiers and 1 tank decoy. The health is deivided evenly between the soldiers and the tank gets a fairly larger share. I think the 4 soldiers get 4k health each while the tank get 8k health. It is possible that even the gunpowder cannon can instantly destroy one of the decoy soldiers. The tank decoy can stay a bit longer though. ;)

3, 950 dmg a second. The Anti-Tank tower attacks every 3 seconds or so, so it deals about 11, 850 damage every shot. The answer is simple with decoy, don't deploy them near AT-Towers. Anyways, the way to use decoys is essentially like using them like an aggro pulling tool, think of them in the terms of an MMO where you have someone who pulls the aggro off the squishy guys who deal the DPS. If your main army ball is under danger from multiple mortars then try to place a decoy that is closer to both of them while pulling their aggro. It is better than a sabotage because it will even pull the aggro of the enemy soldiers, so it means less damage is being put on your actual army.

8k health for a tank and 4k health for a soldier. What, is this a SUPER soldier?
