Is Forbidden City useless nowadays?

Yes, it is useless. We are a top 200 alliance (according to the polish site) and frequently face leaderboard alliances. TC/FC is completely ignored and you always go for the 50% QV.

They still help some. Not all spread attack end up 5 stars. Some will miss the QV, some even miss the TC star because of FC. And countless attacks end up less than 100% destruction because of spreading forces.
The FC role is forcing attackers to spread. Why before they didn't spread attack much before the silo? Because it is more easy to snipe the FC and stay in one mass. But now there is 3 things to snipe: TC, FC, Silo so they change to spread to get 50% QV.

The total discount comes to 11%. The bonus from the research is 10% of the 10% bonus which comes to a total of 11% discount.

from my point of view FC doesn't perform it's basic function for the high level bases - to prevent from quick victory. And what are your impressions?

If you take a look at the top 10 players in the world right now, you will see that 8 (eight) out of 10 have the Forbidden City.

...did I answer your question? ;)

It really depends on the layout but for the most part, it is definitely not as reliable as it once was. I've used the forbidden city ever since I started playing however long, long, long, ago it was (Back when sabotage only used 1 space) and it worked well. For me, I noticed the game changed quite drastically with the introduction of the silo and suddenly most of the time players are going for the 50% damage quick victory. I think it has to do more with dealing with the silo so people spread the offense a bit more or using multiple corner attacks. Because of all that, having the forbidden didn't benefit me since 9/10 times they are going for the damage. So with that I changed to coliseum to give myself am offensive boost since the forbidden was really doing nothing for me. I guess the you could say the coliseum adds to my defense but it's just another garrison so I wouldn't factor that into the reason to switch. I'm not a pro player so the gladiator strength is very welcome. I also don't have the high end troop cards to make up for glad strength. This is just my situation.

Honestly I know some people who won't make the switch solely based on the fact that they have to make a new base layout which can be exhausting as well.

That doesn't mean anything. What if 92 out of 100 have something else?
If the the top 50 had them I'd be impressed.

They have FC to make people trying to get stars off them in multiplayer more difficult. That is pretty much the only reason. Not that you'll find yourself getting attacked that often that high up in the leaderboard anyway.

Manifesto, that may not mean anything to *you*.

Have you even thought that the choice made by 8 of the 10 top players in the world may be more reliable than your personal opinion?
Go ahead and check the top 50 players, or 100 players, if you have time.
I did it for the top 10 already, and if you think that 8 out of 10 is a pure coincidence, perhaps you don’t know much about probability.

How do you know that, are you one of the top 10 in the world?

Besides, our OP was asking if the Forbidden City is useless at higher level.
You just confirmed it’s very useful for war - hence, by definition, it’s not useless at all.

How are you determining "top 10 players in the world?" Based on the medals leaderboard? I glanced at the top 10, and most of those guys are in the same alliance (and it is not a leaderboard alliance). You could certainly call them the top 10 medal chasers in the world, but top 10 players is quite a stretch.

I could also ask ‘what do you know about the top 10’?
Are they great players? Are they spenders? Are they hackers?
I prefer to question things than blindly believe the one thing I see.

They have more than twice my medals, and their bases are way ahead of mine (and perhaps yours).

I prefer to question things than blindly believe the one thing I see.

So do I, and I have a couple of questions for you.

1) Do you think it’s more intelligent to look at the top 10 of the world ranking to get good ideas, or at the bottom 10?
Or should we look at those 10 who are between the 536968th and 536977th position?

2) Let’s assume that these 10 guys are ALL big spenders (they may well be, for what I know) AND that they’re ALL cheaters, too.
By your reasoning, 8 of them are also stupid, since they chose the “useless” Forbidden City.
Also note that at their level they don’t miss 1,000 crowns to switch to another Wonder. So they are stupid two times, since they decided to keep the FC.
Does this seem a valid assumption to you?

I am not. It’s already done. That’s why there’s a ranking.
You may argue that there’s another ranking by star level, but I can ensure you that the world top players by medals are also very much high up by stars, too.

In any case if you have a better idea to determine the best players in the world, feel free to present it here. I will read it.

1. The top 10, like any poll, is not enough of a pool of players to make a determination, imo.
If you want unbiased results look at the top 100 or top 200 or 500.
2. My reasoning? I never gave any reasons. All l did was question whether your choice of the top 10 was a big enough sample.
Also, l never gave an opinion about these top 10, stupid or otherwise. I have no idea why they have the FC.
You, on the other hand, seem to have a pretty good opinion about that so I'll defer to your expertise on the matter. Çlearly, you have plenty of investigative knowledge on these people.
Either that, or you're just getting upset because l had the audacity to question something you said. My bad. I humbly prostrate myself at the altar of your indignation.

Why not the top 5,000 then?
With your logic, one could object that if the top 5000 all have the Forbidden City, the next million may not have it and therefore the top 5000 means “nothing” as well.
The problem is, this argument is flawed.

There’s 4 wonders of the same age as the FC. Do you want to know what is the probability that 8 players out of 10 randomly picked the same wonder out of 4 choices?
If I show you that that probability is very small, would you be convinced that these guys chose (and kept) the FC for a reason?
And once you accept that the top 10 players chose the FC for a reason, would you agree that maybe they know more than you and I on what wonder is best at high level?

By the way, I had a few more minutes of my life to waste and I checked players from 11 to 20. Another 8 of them have the FC. That makes 16 (sixteen) out of the top 20 in the world.
Would you also like to know what the probability is, among 20 players, to have 16 of them randomly pick the same wonder out of 4? You may be surprised by how small that number is.

You, on the other hand, seem to have a pretty good opinion about that so I'll defer to your expertise on the matter. Çlearly, you have plenty of investigative knowledge on these people.

Sorry to see you are becoming sarcastic. The topic was indeed quite simple. The original poster wanted to know if the FC is “useless” at high levels, and clearly it is not.
I’m not getting upset, actually I’m having fun.
Peace, and have a good day!

The OP is clearly mentioning FC in the context of WW performance.

Taking a look at the top players by medal count in multiplayer and seeing them use FC doesn't mean much for wars, because individual medal counts have nothing to do with world wars.

FC makes it harder for people to snag the TC victory star, that's it. In MP, you only have 30 seconds to analyze a base and decide if you want to attack, FC bases have to be analyzed more so attacking a base without FC, it's easier to plan and execute an attack.
And in the case someone does attack, there's more chance that the person will mess up and lose the battle or at least that 5th star, again because you don't have time to plan.

All of this doesn't count in WW, where you have all the time you need to plan out an attack. And in most to all cases, the Colloseum or even the Terracotta army will help your war performance more.

Look at the top bases for the top alliances, that will give you a better picture. At a quick glance, only one of the top five bases for KA had the FC.

FC is less effective than before, but nothing from "useless".
And no, not everyone can 5 star any base with FC!

So that is 20% with FC. KA50 is 0SH so they have more reason to use Colo
The next Alliance is GA Soul, I see 2 FC in top 5. (40%)
