Hi everybody,
This post is not for me but for an ally that recently moved from romans to germans.
He used to send us videos of his attacks and he was so good in using rally that we suggested him to switch to germans!
He is early IA. he's got artillery wermacht and riflemen, but still no tanks or HT.
Can you suggest some army or tattics?
He's having some troubles, i think it's normal, but since he's the only german we have in the alliance, nobody can help him much, and some tips would be good!

Other, more experienced players playing as the Germans might be able to help better, but, I'll still take a stab at the problem.

It'll help him to prioritize getting the tank upgrade from heavy cavalry on priority.

Till then, he can probably try the following composition (assuming his troop capacity is already 140; if not, reduce 5 riflemen from the composition if Standing Army chapter 5 is pending; if all three barracks haven't been upgraded, we'll have to play around with the composition a little more; let us know, and we can try suggesting alternatives):
6 heavy cavalry
5 artillery
3 supply carts
38 riflemen

Assuming he's going in for war attacks and other key attacks after earning at least 1 star from a previous battle; else, please suggest that he can go into a multi-player battle, and get at least 1 star to get the Teutonic Fury (+15% damage boost) active on all troops for the next attack.

Since he's apparently already good at using rally, he could continue using them the way he's comfortable with it.

It'll also help him to upgrade the oil refinery on priority, and build the air-strip.
In parallel, let him get going on the Aviation chapters at the library, at least till chapter 3.
Starting with 1 bi-plane, and stepping it up to 2 with the library research will help in keeping troops alive in battles - whenever his troops are about to get overwhelmed by defenders, sending in the planes should help.

Thereafter, getting factory to level 3 to unlock the Heavy Tank can be the next priority. In conjunction with this, it'll help to get the splash damage research for heavy tanks done at the library.

Teething troubles are common, and as you've said, it should be temporary. For gathering resources, at the moment, he could focus on attacking EA bases, and skip the more difficult bases. At least till he gets the tanks unlocked at the armory. Keeping the medal range lower will also help.
In wars, you can probably help him with identifying alternate targets which are relatively easier, till he finds his groove with the Germans.

Feel free to reach out to us with feedback on how this goes, and we can alter the suggestions based on the feedback.

Appreciate you helping him, by posting on his behalf on the forums! Cheers!

make sure he always has fury bonus when attacking.... I relied on my hvy cavalry/tanks until I was able to get a Hvy Tank.... Only used 3 artillery and 25-30 rifles + three supply cart, the rest hvy cav..... so key is to use rally and biplanes to deal with anti-tank cannons, nothing else can hurt a large group of calvary/tanks....

Thank you very much for your answers!
About the composition, we are almost there, he just has to use more heavy cavalry( he said he uses just 3) and maybe less riflemen. In addiction he could ask for French global tanks when he goes to war, if, as i think the fury bonus will work also on them.
Tanks are on their way, and thanks to the discount of last week he already has 2 airspace (only the one from the library is missing)..troops space 135/140, only last barrack missing.
For heavy tanks maybe he'll have to wait.
Of course without teutonic fury all this is pointless! i'll let him know and let you know if things change in better.
Last couple of questions: No wermacht? (these soldiers look so badass)
once he has the tanks, how many should he use? I'm british and i usually use 3/4 tanks or 1 HT, maybe for him the right number is 4/5?

I'll probably defer the question on Wehrmacht to more experienced German players :) (Invoking the power of Brand Marrow and BV123 :))

With tanks, about 4 tanks should suffice, I suppose.
The following composition might work well:
4 tanks
5 artillery
3 supply trucks
31 - 34 shooters (1 raider, as optional unit, for rapid clean up towards the end of the battles)

If the tanks die too quickly in battles, he can probably reduce one artillery and increase a tank.

Yes, French tanks (especially S35 tanks) would be awesome units to carry as donated troops. Global Age howitzers might also work great.
It'll depend on how the war attacks go - if there's need to tank more damage and ensure survival of units, or, if there's a need to cause more damage quickly.
With howitzers (with around 35% increase in DPS over artillery) as donated units, adding the Teutonic Fury bonus, they should be able to cause a lot of damage very rapidly during attacks. For war attacks, if he's trying out carrying donated howitzers, he can try dropping a Protect tactic on the units early in the war attack, and their chances of survival would increase manifold, which might make up for the lack of tanking units.

Feel free to ask additional questions and pass on feedback on trying these out, and we'll be able fine tune the suggestions.
Wishing him well! Cheers! :)

Till I didn't have tanks researched my troop layout was:
2 -3 cavalries
2-3 healing carts
5-6 artileries
shooters

Since have tanks I use:
2-3 tanks
2-3 healing carts
4-5 artileries
shooters

Those troop layouts were most successfull for my gameplay style

In my opinion with faster rally cooldown, longer rally duration, and teutonic fury bonus you really don't need so many cavalries and tanks and it is better to focus on geting as much artileries in your army as it is possible since they with 15% dps boost can tear down bases really much faster compared to having troop layout with more cavalries or tanks .

lol, well coldest and I disagree about tanks vs. howies (I hate retraining times for howies) but both agree that footies are not worth taking to PVP or War if you want to 5 star, I just use them for raiding....

Brand Marrow Each of us have different playstyle.

Mine is maxing dps and going with sabotages .

As long as I sabotage antitank guns 2 tanks are enough for me to be able to 5 star a base.

Till late EA my troop layout with German Nation was based on 1 cavalry, around 25- 30 shooters 2 healing carts and bombards/cannons

I believe one difference is the purpose for which these army compositions are being discussed.
Brand Marrow seems to be talking from the perspective of farming for resources, where troop retraining time is a factor of consideration.
ColdestRage seems to be talking from the perspective of war attacks, where troop training time is not a factor, and multiple sabotage tactics can be used for an attack to suppress anti-tank guns, and get away with fewer tank units, while maximizing damage output.
Just my observations from what has been posted. :)

_Flash_ I use same troop composition for wars and looting.
But I didn't consider that training blessing which I use most of time gets availble at EA .

Brand Marrow It is indeed better to try your troop composition to not wait too long for retraining troops till you have training blessing

Because it's _Flash_ ( with leading and trailing underscores) :)
P.S. You've tagged a different 'flash' :p

On a related note, I find the training time for cannons to be too long, even with a training blessing, on my British base in EA/IA (which would apply to all non-French nations too). Sometimes, stray spike traps, or British/Korean shooters from Command Posts also kill cannons, and it's a pain to retrain them. For farming, I don't use tactics, so, I limit myself to using 4 cannons on my British base, with slightly more shooters in the mix to take advantage of the unique nation troop. So, I can relate to Brand Marrow 's point of view.
Probably, I'm too spoilt with the training duration of troops on my French account :)
Again, different play-styles :)

True , training time of cannons even with training blessing takes some time.

My whole army retrains in around 17-18 minutes having so many cannons, but in the time of waiting for troops I always try to rework my base layout , so I am online whole time and don't have to worry that someone attacks me the moment i log out

For this exact reason, nowadays, I'm playing a lot more on my French base, though there's enough waiting time in Global Age to gather resources for upcoming upgrades. :)
Like I said, I'm spoilt with the shorter training duration on the French base. :)

with my british army i do it too, as i don't use raiders( still have them on horses) i tend to make resources with "war army"..only difference is i use less howie...
Usually at least one of my howie dies on a landmine (seems to be their special bonus, taking the easiest path to death) so with TB usually the training time is about 5 minutes..

Agreed. I use my war army compositions too for farming. Typically, 2-3 minutes between attacks on French base, and about 3-5 minutes between attacks on British base. 17 minutes between attacks is too long during a Training Blessing session...

Wendy I saw some of attacks of Global Age British Nations in my defense box .

Most of them 5 star my base with army of max upgraded shooters.

They don't bother to produce anything else .

Whole army of shooters, 3 planes ,and sometimes 1 sabotage is all they need to 5 star my base.

Will see if with army of standard shooters with teutonic fury I will be able to achieve the same thing.

Probably not, since they have 1 range less, but maybe it is worth a try.

My question is - can foot troops which have already 1,5 range shoot through walls on attack?

If yes I'll upgrade my foot troops on German acc and try out whole army of Wehrmacht (?) with potection of 3 planes and see how it goes

coldest, no they can't shoot through walls, but i think with the new research at the library they have become better especially for those who have them as special troops.
About the full kings royal rifleman army, i tried it once, and it's true, it can work but i don't like it as a way of playing..i like howitzers, tanks HT, anything that make the battle fun.
And I think it doesnt work all the times btw, a couple of good mortar shots and you can say goodbye to half of your army, especially if you don't use supply.
