Air strap is not the worse compare to fighter in defense! I guess in war everyone will put air trap near their Forbidden City!:D

nuclear power and SAM were almost at the same age so they both should be in nuclear age

am really sad cuz we don't get better fighters than those having to send 3 of them for a single building that's really weak even weaker than artillery

yep but net result is they overpower air units, and their site is changeable in real world, event if they get to know where it is they can't just send any fighter to destroy it, not that simple.
am with tactics revealing hidden traps, ambush, SAM would be cool

Not wanting to get too technical but a SAM site can be killed if it's position is known - it all depends on what recon assets the enemy has up & about or whether the enemy is using a chopper & coming in under the radar acquisition of the SAM. SAMs work great if they see you and lock on but they have to see you first .... ;)

Everybody seems to have forgotten the pilot AI is abysmal - they will find these traps and get themselves shot down in no time at all.

$10 says SAMs will need oil to build and rearm along with the extra planes you need to build.

It'll be interesting to wait and see how this is actually implemented. I would be curious about the following:
  • The number of SAMs available in each age
  • The type of resource (oil?) and the cost of building, upgrading, and resetting SAMs
  • As called out by Parmenion, the damage caused to planes (and, at least if the fighter line would be able to withstand a single hit)
  • What triggers the SAM? Do planes have to fly directly over the SAM to trigger it? Or, will the SAM have an area of effect?
Fingers crossed, and hoping that we'll all be using the planes after SAM units are released. :)

I thought so too - that it'll require oil to build, upgrade, and arm them. :)

On a brighter side, they're helping players complete the 'Take Flight' achievements early, and get the crowns from completing the achievements :p

I'm regretting not going for Gate as my wonder of choice now. This statue of Lady Liberty is just looking worse by the day.

No, they will placed near the anti tank guns. The reason is that their is one strategy that is unstoppable: full HT with howies, supported by air. This SAM effectively decrease the effectiveness of air units, hence this troop combo

Will your army clear these SAM traps out as they pass by? Or will they suddenly spring to life as you launch you planes over what appears to be open ground?

This is slowly turning into a non-game, just upgrade central.

Thanks Radzeer - yeah, I realise now it's a trap. With any luck it'll only shoot down 1 plane even though I saw two missiles. Damn, I thought planes were going to be the way of the future. Guess we'll have to wait til Nexon introduces UAVs before we can claim back the skies .....

I was thinking this very same thing! My planes like doing sightseeing tours over castles and air defenses.... If they see one of those things I'm done for ''What's that over there? Is that my old friend SAM?''
