all I've got to say about root access, is that it's built into the structure of Android phone, and there are legitimate reasons why users may want that level of access to their device. i personal have rooted ever one of my devices, mostly to be able to remove bloatware. so i don't assume that root access equals cheating.
on the Apple front, they claim that's it's a totally secure os and they absolutely are against people rooting or modifying their devices in any way. I'll assume that people who do jailbreak (root) apple devices do this more for the fun of ticking off apple and being able to load apps (without paying for them) from other places than just the apple store.
it's always possible that you have a subset of each group that do it for more nefarious reasons (like hacking this game), but I'd think that's a rather small group.
