Pay to Win...Nexon changes policy

With the addition of the Estate, Nexon has gone back on their word that all buildings would be available whether you pay or not.

I am a long-time gamer. I take my fun seriously. I have taught my daughters that it's worth paying real money for games that are made with love and care and designed from the ground up to entertain and delight you. By the same token, I have told them that it's not worth wasting time and money on freemium Skinner boxes that are designed to frustrate and annoy you into "monetization".

Spending time and money on this game blatantly goes against these principles. The hypocrisy bothers my older daughter, who has been saying "you shouldn't play that stupid game, Dad." I know she's right, but I've been like the frog in the pan of water in the old story. See, as long as you increase the temperature of the water very gradually, the frog never notices that things are heating up and happily boils to death.

This is why I'm grateful for the Estate. I mean that sincerely. By jacking up the temperature in the pan so quickly, you have finally moved me to hop out. Instead of spending my time on something that will give me bad posture and carpal tunnel syndrome, I will spend it working out at the gym and becoming stronger and healthier. Or reading books. Or doing something else productive. My daughter will respect me for it.

I'm not going to ask Apple to refund the $20 I spent on that starter pack. I played for a year and got that much worth of entertainment out of this game. But you won't get any more money from me.

I'm going to log in one last time to hand off leadership of my alliance. Then I'll delete the app, unfollow DomiNations on Twitter, and get rid of my bookmarks to this forum and other DomiNations sites.

Bye, everybody! See you at the gym!

Sorry to see you go, but I fear many others are frustrated with this as well.

Let's compare this game to a popular competitor regarding buying workers: Clash. You can buy workers in Clash with gems, not straight money. If you buy every worker with cash, it's still only about $40, BUT you can also buy it with regular gems (crowns). That way, you can save up to buy them without cash if you want, as many players have done. What makes it worse is Dominations requires 4x the workers to do anything, and the worker requirement keeps going up and up. With a max base in Clash, you can work on 5 buildings at once. In Dominations, you can really only work on 3 things at once if you want to keep enough workers to collect goods, which is a big part of the game. It's ridiculous. Guess which game is more successful and players like?

A better alternative would have been to charge 2000 crowns for the estate. Players could choose to buy crowns with real money to get it, or save up themselves.

If they've done it with the estate, it's probably just the beginning...

I brought the house II package, but there's not a chance in hell i'm going to by the estate especially at that price. Instead i'm hitting the uninstall button.

Thank you Nexon for opening my eyes

The addition of pay only mansion made me realize how foolish I was about this game. Pay to play content is a big middle finger to your loyal user base. I have spent my fair share of money on this game, but as of now I'm closing the checkbook. Not a penny more from me. No more crown packs, no more troop sales, I've had enough.

I'm not leaving the game yet, but only because of great alliance mates. But once they start fleeing, I won't stick around for long. This was a great game, too bad some bean counters had to ruin it.

You want to know what's really funny, this same discussion is occurring over at a CoC forum.

I'm not saying I support Nexoms newest marketing strategy but we live in a world that follows the concept of "Supply and Demand". McDonald's Charged a penny for it's burgers for quite a while when it came out. As it grew and became more utilized, it slowly increased the prices until it was at a similar price to it's competitors. My point is, from a business standpoint, Nexoms decision makes perfect sense. They've built the foundation, created a following, and now is when they begin to tap the profit that can be gained.

Could they continue to keep things how they are and still make a profit? Yes. But there is also a greater profit that can be gained that outweighs the current potential for loss.

Me and 38 people in my alliance feel the same way you feel.
I see no sense in this move and i think nexon is going to regret it.
No more spending money on the game for me or my mates.
And at the first sign of something else made only for paying players( maybe something affecting the war, more than the shameful sales pack ) i'll quit the game and find some other one to spend my free time with.
and that's a shame because i love this game.

The start was the coalitions
where skills was tested it's now a farce
The purple blinking sales started blinking
where mercs you adore turn into cash cows
Then sprung the university
where you can leave a legacy to your children
and never knows what went in there
But who knows Churchill rode along
where armoury was understaffed and overworked
To know that you lack workers?
They decide to add the estate
where you can finally wave goodbye to your little shiny coins
Or this game which has said all along, "Do I care?"

I've never played Clash as the cartoony graphics never appealed to me, but the vast majority of players in my alliance play both games. If Dominations has paywall and Clash doesn't, it's very easy to see what's going to happen.

Well. The most disgusting is the price. 55 euros is A shame!

I think the real problem is not the price.

I have problem with to whom I would give that money. A company that rarely cares about customers problems, has terrible servers and even worse Devs team.Well, I just dont trust them. Im not sure if the benefit for that money will be what it is supposed to be. Customer care is so poor in DN. I know if I buy new Converse or go to dinner to fancy restaurant I will spend those 55 euros and I will be satisfied with the service. But if you spend it on DomiNations, the service is more than unsure.

That is way way way overpriced. I am a new player and I will keep on playing as I am still at GPA and bought a starter pack 2 weeks ago. But I'm sure as hell will not pay for this money grabbing scheme. It's just a way to milk the whales. This is where the money is at. They make up to 90% of total revenue and I guess they must have like max base already.

This is happening in a lot of games, most actually. Was hoping it wouldn't happen here though, but I guess it was kind of inevitable. I know a lot of players rip on Nexon about how they always want us to buy crowns etc., but compared to other apps they really were not all that demanding. But now they are probably pulling even. I still love the game, but I won't be getting the estate because the value is just not there for me. I've been in a thread like this for literally every game forum I have been in, it's the never-ending rift between gamers and business.

To add insult to injury they have mansion sale going on right now. During the next 7 days you can buy it for only $49.99. What a steal!
