How annoying is it when you drop some raiders on the map next to resource buildings expecting them to take about 100k gold but they decide to take out a few pointless houses then die from being over powered by lots of troops. Then the easy target is now swarmed with tanks and howitzers that take forever to move away

Raiders target any resource/storage building, in addition to targeting the next closes resource building once they destroy the one they are at. Houses are considered a storage building, raiders should be able to destroy house within 2 max 3 shots. Maybe next time you can drop off just one raider to get those defenders to pop then drop off another troop on the opposite side of the base so they target that troop and once they get about half way there then drop off more raiders on the side where the resources are.

Sounds like reasonably designed base with mingled houses to distract your raiders. No crime there.
JNation has a good countermeasure and I often do the same except usually infantry or shooter.

That depends on your style. If you are French with Training blessing, A good raiding army (~10 shooters, 4~5 miners, 20+ raiders) can be trained in less than 3 minutes. If you train them while searching easy layouts, you can almost non-stop raid while the blessing lasts. You can get 3~4 mil gold and food depending on your luck. Your medal will drop, of course. :)

Probably also depend on what age you are in and medal range too. Sitting in industrial age, you can walk away from a battle with all loot and a victory using all raiders on an enlightenment age base thats rushed. And to be honest you wouldnt need to drop all your raider either.

I rarely five star bases and I have no shortage of diamonds...
But I do switch back and forth with my army makeup. Really depends on my objectives. Raiding for oil pretty much nullifies getting five stars. Just gotta grind it out with a training blessing.

I like dropping my 30 raiders on a low level base and "borrow" everything from him. Don't care about the 5* or trade goods. Just want that gold & poultry...

I find myself only using up to 10 of them on a certain base, I'm not sure why everyone is talking about dropping 30+ raiders on a base, even if it has good loot, it's good to target those bases which have their resources exposed. This is much easier if you're medal dropping, though, and it's the best, albeit the most boring, way to loot. Typically, bases which have the Pyramids are the best for this, as it's silly to keep farms and wonders in walls (unless it's FC, etc.,). Those players, provided they've been off for a while and/or haven't collected in a bit, are always the best for raids.

Regardless, I think that they need to have priorities. I don't need some house with 60 food and gold destroyed, I need the mill with 110k, or the farm(s) with 25k each taken out, before the raiders get swarmed by horsemen and foot soldiers.

Troops do a lot of stupid things in this game, and I have yet to see any of them become more intelligent after a version upgrade. So you'd be smart to adjust your strategy instead of thinking the game will change. When I see houses clustered with the resources I want, I either drop a couple extra raiders or footies in that area, or make sure I have a rally available to target the stuff I really want.
